About us

A West Auckland clinic that treats the cause

Lifestyles has been on Great North Road in New Lynn for over 24 years. We are a team of registered therapists who take chronic and stubborn problems seriously, and who would rather teach you something useful than book you in forever.

Our approach

Good hands are only half of it

Plenty of places will rub the sore bit. That helps for a few days. We are more interested in why the sore bit keeps happening — your posture, your work setup, how you sleep, how you breathe, what you have been carrying for years.

Neuromuscular Therapy gives us a structured way to look at soft tissue pain: the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system together, plus the perpetuating factors keeping you stuck. Some of those factors are things only you can change, so we make sure you understand them.

None of that means every visit is clinical. If you need an hour of quiet and warm hands, that is a legitimate reason to come in too.

What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

Allow an hour. Wear whatever you are comfortable in — you will be draped with clean linen throughout, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

01

Health history and a proper conversation

Before your first hour we ask you to fill in a health history form. Then we talk it through — previous injuries, surgery, sleep, stress, what your days actually look like.

02

Assessment where it is useful

Postural analysis, range of motion, gait if it is relevant. Your therapist tells you what they are seeing rather than keeping it to themselves.

03

Treatment, explained as it happens

You will know what technique is being used and why, and what feedback we need from you along the way.

04

Homecare and a return plan

You leave with something to do between sessions and an honest view of how often you need to come back — which is sometimes not very often at all.

The rehab gym

Hands-on work, then something to build on

Our gym was designed for exercise rehabilitation rather than general training. Your therapist demonstrates and monitors each movement one-on-one, so you are not guessing at home.

  • Return to activity after surgery, illness or a long break
  • Acute and chronic soft tissue injury rehabilitation
  • Prescriptive core and stability training
  • Video gait analysis for walking and running
  • Programmes built around your goals, then handed over
  • Advice on where to train next, if you are starting out
